the last time we met there was an election. there is a lot to be thankful for in the outcomes of the election at the national state and local level. also on two local measurs. prop b, 195 million dollar general obligation bond measure earmarked to provide renovations and improvements to our city parks. one of the reasons why that is so important to us here in the council and also to the mdc, these renovations advance access in the facilities. this is the way that we get to renovate recreation centers and playgrounds and bathrooms and trails. it was important for our transition plan work to have this funding source. that was a successful outcome. one of the benefit of the bond measure is that these improvements that have been taken place, different recreation centers, it was more accessible disaster shelters. these rec centers are on the list of available shelter site. back in 2005 we first started the survey, a lot of them were not renovated and are not successful. as would go back one by one was added to the list. that has hel

much more beyond being an elected office having some sort of title. i think the title he cared most about was father, grandfather, brother cousin. his family was so absolutely important to him. i read through his obituary, and it reminds me to some extent of how i felt after i wrote and read my father's own obituary in that it's a wonderfulm but it doesn't come close to really saying who this man was. mike gave his entire life to his brother and sister, both as family, but also when i say that i mean collectively, his entire society. truly someone who will be missed dearly. his wife of 45 years kathleen his three children, one of whom is a member of our own police department lt. mike nevin. a great man who leaves a great legacy, not just in san mateo county but throughout the region. i know i can say it on behalf of everyone here, his family is.lnk sent our deepest condolences. >> presidentcondolences if we could -- >> president chiu: if we could adjourn as a board for mike nevin and kay gulbengay. >> clerk calvillo: supervisor campos. >> supervisor c

official and governor -- once a local elected official, always a local elected official. what i learned from that is partnership is what it's all about. if you want to confront the most vexing problems, you have to bring people across an ideological spectrum, you have to include the business community, you have to include our nonprofit, our faith leaders. that's how you get things done, when you bring people together. and i look around this room and i see that you have already figured that out. i hope some of you had the opportunity to meet lee hirsch because i've done a lot of work with him in the context of our bullying. one of my favorite memories in my experience with lee is that we watched this film together with about a thousand people in sioux falls, south dakota, it was remarkable to watch the reactions of the kids in sioux falls, parents, educators, and we did that same q and a when we were done. i appreciate the wonderful words of your superintendent, that was exactly the dynamic in sioux falls and that's the remarkable thing, superintendent, is that this issue
